If you are interested in learning more about wine, and how the humble grape can produce a drink with such diversity of aroma, flavour and enjoyment, then the Lincoln Wine Society might be a good place to begin. \u00a0 \u00a0Wine drinking or appreciation can have a fusty reputation where people try to bamboozle others with bizarre descriptions of the wine they are smelling and drinking.<\/p>\n
We are not like that!<\/p>\n
Of course we are interested aroma, the acidity and fruit balance in wine. \u00a0We are interested in the mouthfeel of the wine and the ground and climate in which the grapes grew. \u00a0We want to know more about what happens in the winery to create this wonderful drink. \u00a0But, we try to do this in a friendly, fun and welcoming space for all who have \u00a0a varying interest in wine.<\/p>\n
‘Taste with your head, drink with your heart’<\/em><\/span><\/strong> – Pierre Poupon<\/p>\n We meet each month, usually on the third Thursday, Monthly tastings are themed, for example a tasting might focus on a specific region or grape variety. No previous expertise in wine is required. \u00a0Indeed, this is the perfect place to increase your knowledge! Monthly ticket prices may vary but will typically be about \u00a325.<\/p>\n Lincoln Wine Society was founded in 1985 by Christine Austin and Huw Jenkins. The usual format for our evening is to serve a \u00a0‘welcome wine’ from 7.30pm, allowing some time to socialise before the speaker’s presentation starts at 7:45pm.<\/p>\n
\nThe talks are generally a mixture of information, speaker’s anecdotes, and questions and answers
\n– the atmosphere is relaxed and social.
