{"id":292,"date":"2016-01-22T10:14:11","date_gmt":"2016-01-22T10:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lincolnwinesociety.co.uk\/blog\/?p=292"},"modified":"2016-05-24T16:37:10","modified_gmt":"2016-05-24T16:37:10","slug":"january-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/lincolnwinesociety.co.uk\/blog\/?p=292","title":{"rendered":"January 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><\/b>Happy new year!!\u00a0 It certainly was a great start to the year with this month\u2019s tasting.\u00a0 I unfortunately missed out but the reviews of the night tell me I missed an excellent evening!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ben Robson<\/strong> from The Bat and Bottle, based in Oakham, presented an evening of delight with wines from the region of Chianti.\u00a0 Including from Rufina and the Chianti Classico area, the biggest sub-area of Chianti in Tuscany.\u00a0 The offerings of the evening varied in style, geography, altitude and price but it was safe to say the one thing that was consistent was the quality of the wine.\u00a0During the evening Ben\u00a0introduced two types of wine to compare and contrast.\u00a0 These were\u00a0a standard 2009 Rufina from Colognole with 20% Canaiolo grape and supplemented with Sangiovese (\u00a314.50)\u00a0alongside a Riserva \u2018Don\u2019 from the same vintage and the same producer.\u00a0 This being\u00a0100% Sangiovese.(\u00a325)\u00a0The next comparison\u00a0was followed by a Chianti Classico from Le Miccine in Gaiole with a variety of grapes (\u00a315.76)\u00a0alongside a 100%\u00a0Sangiovese Chianti Classico Riserva from the same producer. (\u00a319.75)\u00a0 These side by side comparisons added an interesting perspective to the evening\u2019s tasting.<\/p>\n<p>I am told that this was probably the highest scoring evening\u00a0possibly in the history of\u00a0 The Lincoln Wine Society.\u00a0 Two of the wines sampled scored between 6 and 7.\u00a0 Therefore definitely tickling the taste buds of the 30 attendees.\u00a0 The wine of the night was the Castell\u2019in Villa a 2010 vintage Chianti Classico.\u00a0This powerful red\u00a0leans more to deep, dried fruit, smoke and spice than the floral elements found in cooler vintages.\u00a0 This we are told is grown by a Greek Princess originating from Switzerland and reputedly the most difficult woman in Italy!!\u00a0 (I\u2019m guessing she had no hand in picking the grapes and the processes that followed.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure she probably has done lots of sampling though!!)\u00a0 Her strive for perfection has certainly paid off with this wine and at a cost to you and me\u00a0for just \u00a317.50 the wine wowed and nearly swept the room with a score of 7 on it\u2019s own!\u00a0 Ben, as usual, didn\u2019t disappoint with his entertaining and informative presentation.\u00a0 If you are intrigued (like I am) to find out for yourselves why this wine scored so highly then you can order from their website www.batwine.uk.<\/p>\n<p>I will be interested to know\u00a0your thoughts so please let me know by emailing <a href=\"mailto:secretary@lincolnwinesociety.co.uk\">secretary@lincolnwinesociety.co.uk<\/a> or by commenting on our Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Happy drinking!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy new year!!\u00a0 It certainly was a great start to the year with this month\u2019s tasting.\u00a0 I unfortunately missed out but the reviews of the night tell me I missed an excellent evening!
